I can’t believe it has been a year

This time last year our lives were so much different. Zach was always in pain and the doctors didn’t know how to treat him. They wanted him to go to pain management and just deal with it the rest of his life. Needless to say it was a very difficult time. Our emotions were always up and down depending on how he felt. It was so bad he couldn’t work and things just seemed out of control. Zach’s mom found a doctor in Tucson who specializes in this type of thing and we decided to give it a try. The only down side was it was going to take a month of treatment in a different state!
I remember we both felt so overwhelmed and depressed not to mention scared. We had to pick up our lives and move for a month. Luckily we have a great family and great friends. My aunt kept our dog Sadie for us, Caleb checked our mail and took care of the cat, dad checked on the house and changed the kitty litter, and Zach’s aunt and mom took over my job for me. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help!
We drove to Arizona on Feb 3rd and stayed in a furnished condo Patti had found for us. Zach’s first appointment was that Monday and we didn’t know what to expect. This wasn’t a regular doctor in a doctor’s office with set hours of operation and a staff organizing things. This doctor was completely different he kept different hours each day based on what else he had going on, didn’t take insurance, and sometimes had a receptionist and sometimes didn’t but he was the best thing to happen to us. He was so friendly and best of all he cured Zach.
Going into this experience we had no idea what to expect. We were nervous and hesitant but it turned out to be much better than we could have imagined. Besides Zach getting better we had a good time in Tucson. Zach’s friend from high school, Neal, was going to college in Tucson and we got to spend time with him, Caleb came down for a weekend and we visited his aunt in Tucson and his parents in Phoenix, and we took a long weekend to San Diego to see my brothers and their families which was by far the best time we had down there (we miss you guys so much).
Looking back now I can still remember those feelings of hopelessness and thinking things would never get better. I can’t believe now it has been a year and our lives are back on track. I am so thankful for our families, the doctor, and most of all that it is behind us now!
Here are some pictures from our trip:
